1 Introduction
With the rapid development of 3GPP LTE standardization, newly developed
algorithms and system models are in great need of verification. The LTE systemlevel simulation [1] is a large statistical-based simulation environment which can help study system performance and evaluate new algorithms.
Error Control Coding (ECC) is firstly introduced in computer networks [2], which can help increase efficiency. In digital communications, the two common ECC methods are Forward Error Correction (FEC) and Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ).
In current LTE systems, Hybrid-ARQ (HARQ) using CC (Chase-Combine) or IR (Incremental Redundancy) is performed to increase efficiency and reliability.
But when the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is high, HARQ will do little to help.People always consider HARQ an affiliated scheme in communication systems for its sensitivity in SNR.
In LTE system level of view, researchers focus on the total influences of given algorithms. It is well known that the simulation will cost much time for its large amount of calculation and use of physical memory. An effective data structure is very important in large amount of calculations.
In this chapter, we design a new and effective data structure to implement CC and IR HARQ using Matlab 2010a, which is more effective and easy to achieve. An analysis of simulation result is also given to make a comparison of CC-HARQ and IR-HARQ.
This chapter is organized as follows. Part 2 introduces the basic concepts of CC-HARQ and IR-HARQ, including some brief introduction of LTE system-level simulation. Then, the data structure of HARQ in our system-level simulation is presented. In part 3, simulation result and necessary analysis are given. Conclusions are given in part 4.
